Creature tree – The ecosystem of an oak tree. Illustration print.

Illustration print depicting the ecosystem of an oak tree. The illustration demonstrates some of the types of creature typically found inhabiting the different layers.

– First there is the roots, soil and litter zone beneath the tree. Here lives earthworms and woodlice who feed off last years leaves and acorns.

– Next is the trunk layer, which provides shelter for insects such as ants and larvae.

– The leaves and branch area provide pollen and nectar for bees, while moths lay their eggs.

– Finally is the canopy wherer squirrels gather acorns and small birds such as blue tits hunt the moth larvae.
